Thursday, August 7, 2025, Dr. Jeremy Holloway presented the opening keynote at the 18th annual Mid-America Institute on Aging and Wellness (MAIA), hosted by the University of Southern Indiana and SWIRCA and More.

MAIA is a premier two-day event bringing together healthcare and social service professionals, administrators, clinicians, caregivers, students, and older adults to explore innovative approaches to successful aging and wellness. Each year, the conference features national and local leaders sharing practical tools and groundbreaking information for enhancing quality of life across the lifespan.

Dr. Holloway’s Keynote: Solutions to Isolation and Loneliness for Caregivers and Older Adults
In his keynote, Dr. Holloway, Health Equity Professor at New Mexico Highlands University, Consultant, and founder of Tellegacy,, addressed one of the most pressing challenges in aging populations today: social isolation and loneliness. Drawing on his research in social determinants of health, specifically self-efficacy, connectedness, and resiliency, he offered actionable strategies that caregivers, healthcare providers, and community organizations can use to strengthen social connection and improve emotional well-being.

Attendees gained insight into:

  • Evidence-based interventions that reduce isolation and foster meaningful relationships.
  • The role of intergenerational programs in building resiliency for both older adults and caregivers.
  • How healthcare systems can integrate connectedness into care planning to improve overall outcomes.

A Shared Focus on Connection
This year’s MAIA programming strongly emphasized the importance of community and connection, including a screening of the Emmy®-nominated documentary Join or Die, which explores the decline of community engagement in America and its impact on social isolation. Dr. Holloway’s keynote complemented this theme, offering concrete solutions that align with Tellegacy’s mission of creating meaningful intergenerational bonds and reducing loneliness among older adults.

Advancing Wellness Through Education
By sharing his expertise and passion for connection, Dr. Holloway contributed to MAIA’s goal of equipping attendees with the knowledge and skills to make a real difference in their organizations and communities. His participation reflects Tellegacy’s ongoing commitment to advancing health equity and building supportive networks for older adults.
