As part of my ongoing mission to equip healthcare professionals with tools to better serve aging populations, I’m honored to lead a Continuing Medical Education (CME) workshop titled:
Suicide Awareness & Prevention: A Clinical and Cultural Approach to Older Adults at Risk
This virtual session, hosted by the Clark County Medical Society, is a timely opportunity for clinicians, social workers, case managers, and allied health professionals to dive deeper into the overlooked crisis of suicide risk among older adults. As loneliness, cognitive decline, and mental health struggles remain persistent threats to our elders’ well-being, we must sharpen our collective awareness—and readiness—to intervene with empathy, precision, and culturally informed practices.
What You’ll Learn:
- Key risk factors and protective buffers for suicide in aging adults
- The role of social isolation, grief, and chronic illness in suicidal ideation
- Case-based approaches for screening and intervention
- Cultural and generational considerations in addressing mental health stigma
- Practical resources for referral, support, and crisis response
