Coming up, Dr. Jeremy Holloway will deliver three presentations that reflect a central theme across his work: helping organizations translate research, human experience, and practical knowledge into stronger services and more connected communities.

Scheduled for July 29 and August 3, 2026, the presentations will engage Community Action professionals, researchers, community partners, case managers, administrative leaders, and older adults. Although each session serves a distinct audience, all three explore how organizations and individuals can better understand people’s experiences, strengthen meaningful connections, and turn knowledge into action.

July 29: Understanding the Root Causes Shaping Health and Opportunity

On Wednesday, July 29, at 8:30 a.m., Dr. Holloway will lead the 90-minute breakout session:

Root Causes, Real Lives: Understanding Social Determinants of Health in Community Action

Social Determinants of Health are the conditions in which people are born, live, learn, work, worship, and age. These conditions influence health, stability, opportunity, and well-being long before an individual enters an agency or healthcare setting.

Designed for Community Action professionals—including case managers and administrative leaders—the session will connect Social Determinants of Health with poverty, housing, transportation, food security, employment, education, safety, access to care, family stability, and broader community conditions.

Participants will explore practical ways to use this framework to better understand client needs, strengthen referrals and service linkages, support case management, inform community needs assessments, improve data collection, and communicate a more complete account of the work Community Action Agencies perform every day.

The presentation will emphasize discussion and application, helping participants connect the framework with real lives, everyday program decisions, and opportunities for stronger community collaboration.

August 3: Advancing the Science of Intergenerational Connection

Later in the week, Dr. Holloway will serve as the featured speaker for the Oregon Research Institute Science Hour on Monday, August 3, from 2:30–3:30 p.m. Central Time.

His presentation will examine:

Intergenerational Connectedness, Purpose, and Communication as Strategies for Reducing Social Isolation Among Older Adults and Strengthening Workforce Development Among Community Partners

ORI’s Science Hour is a collaborative forum where scientists discuss research, emerging ideas, proposals, and current areas of work. The session provides an opportunity for Dr. Holloway to introduce his research and community-engaged work to ORI scientists while generating discussion around future directions and applications.

The presentation will explore how purposeful intergenerational relationships can create value across multiple levels. Older adults gain opportunities for connection, reflection, and meaningful engagement, while students, volunteers, and community professionals strengthen communication, empathy, social care awareness, and practical Workforce Development competencies.

The August 3 Science Hour follows Dr. Holloway’s recent appointment as an Associate Scientist with the Oregon Research Institute and reflects an expanding opportunity to connect community-based practice with rigorous research and interdisciplinary collaboration. His participation in the August session was confirmed as part of his introduction to the ORI scientific community as Associate Researcher of ORI.

August 3: Preserving the Stories That Connect Generations

That evening, Dr. Holloway will join the Aging Solo Group at the ENDependence Center of Northern Virginia for a virtual presentation beginning at 6:00 p.m. Central Time.

The session, titled:

Writing a Legacy: Sharing Your Story with Family and Friends

will introduce participants to the Legacy Book process and practical approaches for organizing, documenting, and preserving personal and family stories.

The Aging Solo Group supports individuals who are preparing for aging without traditional family support structures. Through guided reflection and conversation, participants will consider how their experiences can be preserved for family members, friends, and future generations.

The workshop will create space for participants to begin identifying meaningful memories, life lessons, relationships, turning points, traditions, and experiences that have shaped their lives. It will also reinforce a powerful principle: every life contains knowledge and stories worthy of being remembered and shared.

The virtual event is being hosted by Tracee Garner, Program Manager for Peer Support at ECNV. The session will include practical guidance, reflection, and time for questions and discussion.

As described in the event announcement, the presentation will connect healthy aging, meaningful relationships, belonging, and the enduring value of personal history.

One Week, Three Dimensions of Impact

Together, these presentations represent three interconnected dimensions of Dr. Holloway’s work.

The Community Action session focuses on understanding the structural and community conditions influencing people’s lives. The Oregon Research Institute presentation examines how connection, purpose, and communication can support both older-adult well-being and Workforce Development. The Aging Solo workshop brings these ideas to the personal level by helping individuals preserve their histories and recognize the lasting value of their lived experiences.

Across research, public service, education, and community engagement, the shared objective is clear: make knowledge useful, strengthen human connection, and help individuals and organizations create meaningful outcomes in the communities they serve.
